If you’re applying for the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Undergraduate Program, one of the most important parts of your application is your Statement of Purpose (SOP).
This single document can set you apart from thousands of applicants. But writing a strong SOP isn’t easy, it requires balancing your academic achievements, personal story, career goals, and passion for Korea.
To make it easier for Indian students (and other international applicants), I’ve put together this guide where you’ll find real SOPs of successful GKS UG scholars shared by them publicly on YouTube. These examples can give you insights into what works, what makes a story stand out, and how you can structure your own SOP effectively.
Why the SOP Matters in GKS UG Applications
- The SOP helps reviewers understand your motivations and future plans.
- It’s your chance to show personality beyond grades and certificates.
- A compelling SOP connects your past experiences with your future goals.
- For UG applicants, it’s especially important since you may not have extensive academic research, your storytelling, clarity of goals, and passion matter more.
To sum it up, it’s a chance for you to stand out from a large pool of applicants. Use it wisely!

Tips to Keep in Mind Before Reading the Examples
- Don’t copy-paste. These SOPs are for inspiration, not duplication. Reviewers can easily spot generic or copied content. Especially when you go for the interview, they’ll easily find out you copied.
- Stay authentic. Share your real motivations. Whether it’s interest in Korean studies, engineering, business, or cultural exchange. Staying real and showing it in a way that makes you a worthy candidate, is the challenge. Crack it!
- Structure matters. Strong SOPs usually follow a pattern: Introduction → Academic background → Why Korea/GKS → Career goals → Conclusion. First getting a grasp of the basic structure and then going for the content to be filled in it should be your go to strategy.
- Highlight impact. Show how your studies in Korea will help you contribute to India, Korea-India relations, or your chosen field. You might be after something completely different from others, but that’s what makes you different, right? Show them your vision!
